Dr. Brian K. Roper, son of retired firefighter, Lee V. Roper, Sr. and retired nurse, Augusta L. Roper, is a board-certified internist in Neptune, NJ.
“Doc,” as he is called by his family and friends, aspired to become a physician since he was five-years-old. Before entering medical school, he earned a bachelor of science in pharmacy at Long Island University in Brooklyn. After working for a year as a pharmacist, he matriculated into medical school at the New Jersey Medical School of UMDNJ in Newark, subsequently earning his doctor of medicine degree.
Dr. Roper's natural rapport with his patients is what makes it easy for them to talk about things that may be difficult to discuss. Doc's open demeanor and humble attitude makes him approachable and one of the main reasons his practice has grown and attracts a wide variety of ages and ethnic backgrounds.
Educating his patients about preventive care is a main focus in his approach to good health. The office carries a library of printed information on different diseases and in an effort to change men’s attitudes and bring awareness to prostate cancer, Dr. Roper was involved with the “Teaching the Barbers” project, a national program developed to encourage African American men of a certain age to have prostate exams.
Currently he is the medical director of three local nursing homes and is on staff at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he has previously sat on several committees, including past co-chair of the Bioethics committee.
Dr. Roper is married to his wife Sarita, the practice’s administrator. They have three children, Brianne, Brielle and Brian Jr.
